The Campbell River Art Gallery opened its doors in 1994. Located on the unceded traditional territory of the Liǧʷiɫdax̌ʷ people—the We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum, and Kwiakah First Nations—in the heart of Campbell River’s downtown community, the CRAG fulfills its Vision and Mission focusing on decolonization, diversity, care, and inclusion. The gallery’s mission is to welcome and engage communities through the work of professional artists, cultural leaders, and Knowledge Keepers. We are committed to serving the public through exhibitions and programs by visual and media artists from Indigenous Nations and Canada. Our specific focus is on supporting projects from under-represented positions within contemporary art practice.

Job Description:
As Executive Director, you will report to the Board of Directors and be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the CRAG. You will oversee operations, finances, personnel, fundraising, and community engagement, while supporting the community and artistic vision of the organization.

Responsibilities:

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and organizational direction

  • Develop operational budgets and forecasts

  • Ensure the maintenance of financial records and monthly reports for Board approval

  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies, including donor and sponsorship programs, social enterprise ventures, and special events

  • Maintain relationships with provincial, federal, and local government funding agencies

  • Identify and coordinate grant opportunities and submissions with staff

  • Liaise with city and regional organizations, funders, businesses, and related arts and cultural organizations

  • Develop new community and corporate partnerships

  • Partner with First Nations in the region to deliver arts programs

  • Represent CRAG at community and sector events and deliver public addresses

  • Manage core staff and their professional development

  • Manage the CRAG volunteer program

  • Work with the Curator to deliver professional contemporary art exhibitions

  • Ensure smooth daily operations of the Gallery

  • Support the Board and its committees; provide monthly written and verbal reports

  • Maintain compliance with policies, records, and insurance requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration, cultural organizational management, creative arts, or a relevant discipline

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience, preferably in the arts and culture sector

  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing inclusive and effective teams

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with fundraising campaigns and funding diversification strategies

  • Minimum 2 years in a not-for-profit leadership role

  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing organizational budgets and producing financial forecasts

  • Minimum 2 years developing communications and marketing strategies

Preferences:

  • Experience reporting to a Board of Directors

  • Experience in marketing and communication

  • Experience working in the Contemporary Arts sector in Canada

Proviso:

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required

  • Willingness to work on-site at the Campbell River Art Gallery

Knowledge:

  • Cultural agility and trauma-informed practice
