JOB DESCRIPTION:
Permanent Full-Time Position
8:30am to 4:30pm / Monday to Friday (Telecommuting Options Available)

The Security Administrator maintains and supports the University’s Cybersecurity Infrastructure, including Identity and Access Management, Security Operations Center (SOC), Incident and Vulnerability Management, and assists in planning and implementing related projects. The role provides Tier 3 technical support to all members of the University and backup support for other functions in Information Technology Services as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain, monitor, and support SOC management, cybersecurity systems (Azure/Entra Purview, PAM Solutions, EDR/XDR, etc.), and IT services.

  • Coordinate implementation of cybersecurity configuration guidelines and remediation efforts.

  • Ensure security and integrity of systems, communication channels, and data, including sensitive information.

  • Monitor logs, respond to issues, and manage system alerts in collaboration with the Security Analyst.

  • Support infrastructure security components (servers, firewalls, storage, backup, recovery).

  • Monitor vulnerabilities, run scans, recommend remediation, and coordinate fixes.

  • Administer cybersecurity services, including privilege access management and identity systems.

  • Plan for future cybersecurity and identity infrastructure needs, providing budget input.

  • Develop and improve tools, processes, and monitoring for cybersecurity compliance.

  • Provide Tier 3 support in collaboration with the IT Service Desk.

  • Assist with data migrations, validations, and identity management issues.

  • Mentor junior ITS staff as appropriate.

  • Support development and implementation of cybersecurity roadmap and projects.

  • Act as backup for cybersecurity personnel.

  • Maintain documentation and perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in cybersecurity, network, and system administration in Linux and Windows.

  • Cybersecurity or network security certification (e.g., CISSP, Security+, CCNA, Microsoft Security, Azure Security) preferred.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Linux, and virtual environments (OpenStack, HyperV).

  • Experience managing Microsoft and MySQL databases (on-prem and cloud).

  • Knowledge of IT security best practices, standards, and tools.

  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, PHP, Python, Perl, Bash).

  • Experience with IAM tools, middleware, and automation.

  • Knowledge of encryption, DNS, firewalls, penetration testing, VLANs, NAC, ISE, and SOC services.

  • Experience with vulnerability management and remediation tools (Arctic Wolf, Nessus, Nmap, Fail2ban).

  • Familiarity with ITIL, SIEM, intrusion detection, DLP.

  • Strong problem-solving, diagnostic, and technical writing skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

  • Strong threat-hunting abilities.
