Founded in 1919, the VSO is the third largest symphony orchestra in Canada, and the largest performing arts organization in Western Canada. The VSO creates, curates, and connects irresistible musical experiences—performing 150+ concerts annually in its home, the Orpheum Theatre, as well as numerous venues throughout Metro Vancouver, and online. The VSO is one of a handful of orchestras worldwide that has its own music school: the VSO School of Music. The organization delivers extensive education programs reaching more than 50,000 young people annually, and community engagement initiatives that reach a further 100,000+ people. JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is seeking a talented and experienced Marketing Officer who combines a passion for arts and culture with a deep understanding of the modern marketing mix. This includes content marketing, analytics, segmentation, public relations, and paid digital campaigns.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with exceptional copywriting and editing skills, a strong visual sense, and proven project management experience. A collaborative, can-do attitude is essential. With over 150 concerts and events each year, this is a fast-paced environment requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. The Marketing Officer works closely with the Marketing, Sales, and Customer Service teams, as well as the Artistic Planning, Development, and Education departments, and the VSO School of Music.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and execute marketing campaigns to promote, drive ticket sales, and audience engagement
Develop compelling content and write ad copy for digital and print materials, including Allegro and other programs
Collaborate with designers and web developers to ensure brand consistency
Manage digital advertising campaigns across Google, Meta (Facebook/Instagram), and other platforms
Analyze campaign performance using tools like Google Analytics and CRM data
Coordinate with internal departments to align marketing strategies with organizational goals
Coordinate marketing budgets and vendor relationships
Support public relations efforts and media outreach
Contribute to audience development and community engagement initiatives
Evening and weekend work is required to meet the needs of the organization
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
Minimum 3 years of experience managing marketing campaigns
A passion for building new audiences and loyal VSO fans
Appreciation for classical music is an asset
Results-oriented and driven to exceed sales targets
Exceptional writing and copy-editing skills
Experience collaborating with designers and web developers
Strong background in content and event marketing
Proficiency in Google Analytics, Google, Meta, and digital advertising platforms
Budget and vendor management experience
CRM data-mining and segmentation experience
Experience working with diverse teams and stakeholders
