Studio 58 is the professional theatre training program at Langara College, located in Vancouver, British Columbia. We offer nationally recognized conservatory-style training for both actors and production personnel. Studio 58 offers three-year programs in Acting and Production.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Theatre Arts department is looking for a temporary Artistic Director for Studio 58, for the period January 1, 2026, to April 30, 2028.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Formulate the long-term artistic vision for training.
Set professional standards for productions, students, faculty, and staff.
Choose plays, set the season, and determine artistic content that develops student strengths.
Hire and supervise the artistic team for each production.
Direct some Studio 58 productions.
Maintain College section budget allocations.
Maintain liaison with the artistic community and other professional theatre companies.
Seek outside placements for students with professional theatre companies.
Guide fundraising efforts for the program.
Promote students and graduates within the profession.
Stay current in professional trends and maintain local and national contacts.
Oversee annual student recruitment, auditions, and promotional activities.
Set and maintain budgets for productions, workshops, and other activities.
Recruit, supervise, and train instructional team members.
Counsel students and conduct pedagogical reviews for all aspects of training.
Manage overall program budgets, delegate administrative tasks, create term calendars, attend meetings, supervise support staff, liaise with administration, participate in College committees, and represent Theatre Arts at meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience as a professional theatre administrator, such as Artistic Director of a company.
Strong professional contacts locally, nationally, and internationally.
Knowledge of trends, innovations, and practices in professional theatre and allied arts.
Credentials for teaching aspects of acting curriculum and knowledge of training philosophies.
Experience as a professional director of plays and familiarity with contemporary and classical repertoire.
Long-range vision for selecting seasons that balance student experience and audience appeal.
Exceptional leadership, managerial, and organizational skills.
Computer skills including Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and College administrative interfaces.
Education:
Master’s degree in a related field, or one of the following combinations of education and professional experience:
Bachelor’s degree plus five years of professional experience and evidence of senior membership in a union or professional association
Bachelor’s degree plus one year of additional conservatory training/apprenticeship and three years of professional experience
Ten years of professional experience and evidence of senior membership in a union/professional association
Completion of recognized professional theatre or film training program plus five years of professional experience
Professional experience includes work as an actor, director, dancer, designer, choreographer, vocal coach, musical director, playwright, movement specialist, stage and/or production manager.
REMUNERATION:
Salary Range: $45.88 - $142.49/hour | Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience | Pay Grade: LFA Instructional
