Job Title: Theatre Technician Production

Job Summary:
The Theatre Production Technician is responsible for managing and coordinating scheduling, production, and technical preparations of Studio 58 productions. The role includes administrative and budgetary responsibilities, supervision of student crew and SWAP students, coordinating backstage operations, strike of each production, and maintenance of props, costumes, and furniture. The position works collaboratively with other Studio 58 contributors to ensure successful productions.

Working Conditions:

  • Move costumes, props, and stage materials exceeding 10 kg

  • Climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding, and use heavy equipment when necessary

  • Exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, noise, and noxious odours during stage set, props, and costume construction

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage scheduling, production, and technical preparations of Studio 58 productions, including deadlines, rehearsals, production meetings, safety protocols, and liaising with directors, designers, and staff

  • Provide supervision and direction to student production members, including stage and production management labs, SWAP students, and crew assignments

  • Perform administrative and budgetary duties, including managing production budgets, estimating costs, drafting agreements, coordinating employee paperwork, and handling petty cash

  • Coordinate backstage operations, strikes, and maintenance of theatre spaces, props, costumes, and furniture; loan items to external theatre companies and maintain records

  • Perform other duties as required, including researching capital items and equipment pricing

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three-year diploma in Theatre Arts OR two-year professional program in Theatre or Liberal Arts plus one year of post-secondary studies

  • Four years of recent experience as a production manager and/or stage manager in a professional theatre setting, or equivalent education/experience

  • Experience supervising and coordinating production crew, including volunteers

  • Experience managing production budgets

  • Knowledge of audio-visual equipment, theatre maintenance, backstage coordination, wardrobe, and WHMIS safety standards

  • Strong English communication skills, both oral and written

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and supervisory skills; ability to meet deadlines and provide constructive feedback

  • Ability to establish effective relationships with staff, students, and theatre professionals

  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, and in flexible conditions and schedules

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, word processing, and spreadsheets

  • Ability to travel to other locations as required

  • Basic ability to operate power tools

REMUNERATION:
$36.32–$41.79 per hour
