JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Sales & Tour Manager is responsible for the promotion and sales of all Green Thumb touring school shows, workshops, tour planning and logistics, and any ancillary activities related to those accountabilities.
The Sales & Tour Manager works collaboratively with other Green Thumb staff members: with the Artistic Director, General Manager and Company Manager on tour strategy; the General Manager to approve sales strategies; and the Development and Outreach Officer to align annual tour and sales strategies with society development and outreach activities.
The Sales & Tour Manager provides professional support (including but not limited to contract preparation, invoicing, and scheduling) to the Artistic Director, General Manager and Board of Directors, and acts as an advocate for Green Thumb Theatre to arts professionals, stakeholders, and the community at large.
The Sales & Tour Manager must be an enthusiastic, results-driven team player. They must be comfortable making sales phone calls to both new and existing school and venue contacts, with a strong focus on building, maintaining, and developing relationships with educators, administrators, venue managers, and sector colleagues. This role is ideal for an early-career or emerging cultural worker who is looking to expand their network and refine their skills.
Some travel to key industry events is required.
Work Schedule:
The Sales & Tour Manager’s schedule will vary based on seasonal needs. From September through June (about 44 weeks), the role requires an average of 30 hours per week, spread over 5 days. During July and August (about 8 weeks), the schedule shifts to approximately 15 hours per week, worked over 3 days. Some evening and weekend work will be required, depending on event schedules and tour demands.
Exact working hours will be determined by mutual agreement, based on organizational priorities and seasonal workload. Flexible scheduling options can be discussed to accommodate both the successful candidate and the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote and sell touring shows and workshops to schools and presenters across British Columbia, Canada, and internationally
Build, maintain, and develop relationships with schools, district representatives, and presenters
Lead all tour and workshop promotional activities, including producing promotional materials and coordinating promotional events
In collaboration with the General Manager, undertake presenter sales strategy and negotiations
Perform front-line sales and represent the Theatre at exhibition and showcase events (both in person and virtual)
Arrange for preview rehearsal and show days at host schools (usually no charge to the school)
Maintain and update the touring database SUMAC
Generate contracts and invoices for all performances, and follow up for payment
Act as a resource to the General Manager on touring grant application planning and preparation
Maintain touring statistics and compile reports at the end of the tour/season
Lead annual sales strategy development
Register for promotional contacts and showcase opportunities
Create a tour sales and promotion budget for the season in collaboration with the General Manager and outreach and marketing staff
Work with the society bookkeeper to manage and track expenses
Report to the General Manager any variances between budget projections and actual results regularly
Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated ability and experience in sales
Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) software (preference for experience with Sumac)
Experience with contracts (drafting and comprehension) and invoicing
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Outstanding attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Strong work ethic and passion for live theatre for youth, particularly with a focus on social justice
Initiative and problem-solving skills
Strong time management and multi-tasking skills
Familiarity with the performing arts ecology locally and across Canada
Assets:
Post-secondary training or equivalent professional experience in theatre production, arts administration, or event management
Experience working with and/or under Canadian Actor Equity Agreements and/or Canadian Theatre Agreement contracts
Previous tour coordination experience
Class 5 BC Driver’s License
