Music has the power to uplift and improve lives. Harmony for All, a community-based initiative for Burnaby residents, provides free musical instrument lending, no-cost musical education outreach programs, and scholarship opportunities for City of Burnaby music lessons. Harmony for All’s outreach initiative focuses on groups and organizations within the City of Burnaby who work with individuals experiencing barriers. Through Shadbolt outreach, Harmony for All works with the organization or group and our pool of instructors to develop and facilitate no-cost group musical experiences. Our goal is to connect people of all ages through music, promote positive interactions, and build stronger communities.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Harmony for All is looking for an enthusiastic and approachable Percussion Instructor who is passionate about sharing music with others and creative in developing musical experiences for a variety of ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Instructors work with the organization or groups and our outreach team to develop and facilitate musical experiences such as rhythm- and percussion-based workshops.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach beginner-friendly percussion classes/experiences for children, youth, adults, and seniors

  • Use a wide variety of musical instruments, drums, small percussion, and creative rhythm-making with accessible materials

  • Exhibit an open and sincere approach by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally, fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and engaging environment for all participants

  • Demonstrate flexibility by adapting routine and different learning styles to accommodate participant needs

  • Provide high-level instruction to a variety of ages and abilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong foundation in percussion, teaching, or community facilitation experience

  • Completion of, or enrollment in, a university or college-level music program (relevant experience will also be considered)

  • Strong teaching background with experience teaching music to a variety of age groups

  • Music therapy or equivalent experience is an asset

  • Emergency Level First Aid-CPR C certification, or willingness to obtain before the program start

  • Police Information Check will be required
