The Shadbolt in Your Community Arts program extends programming from the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts into the community, offering opportunities for participants to experience fine arts at a more accessible cost. These programs are inclusive and support freedom of expression, giving students the chance to work with Fine Art specialists in an environment that fosters creativity.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Shadbolt in Your Community is seeking qualified and experienced Contract Visual Art Instructors to plan, organize, and facilitate visual arts classes for ages 4–16, separated by age group. Instructors will create class outlines and curriculum goals suitable for each group and teach at facilities across Burnaby and elementary schools. Students range primarily from children to youth, ages 4–18.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide high-level instruction to a variety of ages and abilities.
• Assess age appropriateness of lessons and materials.
• Complete and submit supply lists and lesson plans.
• Provide transportation to facilities and schools within the City of Burnaby.
• Communicate and interact effectively with participants and parents.
• Instruct students in a variety of artistic mediums.
• Manage classroom settings and maintain a positive learning environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Completion of a university or college-level visual arts program (BFA preferred).
• Strong teaching background with experience instructing visual arts to children and teens.
• High Five® certification is considered an asset.
• Experience teaching ceramics is an asset but not required.
• Must hold or be willing to obtain Emergency Level First Aid–CPR C before starting.
• Availability for after-school and possible weekend classes.
• Position is contract-based, with hours dependent on registration.

REMUNERATION:
Hourly wage: $35.00–$43.00 plus 4% in lieu of benefits.
