Evergreen Cultural Centre Society operates a professional venue that offers arts and cultural services to the Tri-Cities area (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody). The core business is to provide performing arts, visual arts, arts education, temporary public art, and facility rentals that are representative of, and accessible to, the local community. The centre houses a 257-seat, flexible black box theatre and a 1,500 square foot public art gallery. The Rehearsal Studio and several art studios provide an additional 5,000 square feet of space for Evergreen’s classes, workshops, and rentals while the glassed-in lobby offers a spectacular view of Lafarge Lake.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager, the Facility Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Evergreen Cultural Centre’s building functionality and upkeep. The role ensures a safe and efficient working environment by performing daily janitorial and maintenance tasks, coordinating with municipal and independent contractors on specialized projects, working within a prescribed budget, and adhering to safety regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform early morning (5:00 AM) weekday janitorial service for offices, classrooms, and presentation spaces in the 23,000 sq ft building.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs to building systems such as appliances, walls, doors, cabinetry, and flooring.
• Complete exterior property maintenance including trash pickup, snow/ice removal, graffiti removal, pressure washing, window washing, and pest control.
• Schedule, train, and review auxiliary janitorial service coverage for weekends and off time.
• Supervise and monitor contractor activities to ensure safe and orderly work.
• Receive, assess, and respond appropriately to maintenance and repair requests from staff; communicate updates regarding maintenance activities and disruptions.
• Submit requests to municipal liaisons for maintenance and repairs outside scope or under municipal responsibility.
• Schedule and provide early morning access to contractors to minimize disruption to events and activities.
• Act as the primary contact and on-site guide for municipal staff and contractors during annual inspections and site reviews.
• Undertake thorough building inspections, including secure lock-up of the facility.
• Develop and maintain records of supplies inventory, repairs, and inspections.
• Source and purchase janitorial and maintenance supplies and equipment.
• Establish budgets for janitorial service coverage and maintenance costs in collaboration with the Technical Operations Manager.
• Adhere to industry best practices for safe work procedures and ethics.
• Perform other duties as required by the Technical Operations Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong dedication to and extensive knowledge of facility maintenance, including janitorial methods, basic repairs, floor maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Ability to work independently during early morning hours, with occasional schedule flexibility around events and activities.
• Ability to work within the budget, policies, regulations, and contractual obligations established by Management and the Board of Directors, and enforce them with fairness, impartiality, and good judgment.
• Strong interest in and commitment to workplace safety.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Good understanding of standard office software (Outlook, Excel, SharePoint).
• Ability to perform physical work required for cleaning and maintenance, including standing for extended periods, lifting heavy supplies and equipment, climbing stairs, and safely using ladders.
• Meaningful understanding of and commitment to diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and equity.
Desired Qualifications:
• Recognized certificate in Facility Maintenance (BSW) with a minimum of 5 years of experience or equivalent training and experience.
• Experience in arts, education, and/or recreational facility settings.
• Enjoys working with people, and is open, approachable, and tactful.
Desired Licenses, Certificates and Registrations:
• Building Service Worker (BSW) Certification
• Current WHMIS certification
• BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle

REMUNERATION:
$28.50 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
