JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Executive Producer, the Production Manager oversees the realization of the logistical, staging, and technical elements of projects at Gateway, on and off its stages. They are a key member of the management and administration team, working cross-departmentally and most closely with the artistic, facilities, rentals, and education departments to ensure the effective execution of performances and events. Candidates may come to this position with a background in event production, stage management, technical theatre, or similar environments.

Gateway is a PACT member with a 540-seat mainstage theatre, an 85-seat studio, plus a rehearsal hall. The venue was recently upgraded to full LED lighting, and plans are underway for further technical upgrades. Gateway’s own artistic offerings are varied and may include produced shows, presented shows, and other artistic events and projects outside of traditional theatre. The Production Manager will play a key role across all activities and support the rentals program. Currently, the role has a limited involvement in education programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and/or support the realization of produced and presented artistic offerings

  • Lead the activities of the department team (Assistant Technical Director, IATSE venue technicians, and casual IATSE crew)

  • Establish and manage department budgets

  • Participate in the planning of artistic seasons

  • Ensure the maintenance of performance-related spaces and equipment

  • Plan the long-term technical equipment needs of the facility

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three to five years of experience overseeing the execution of artistic events

  • Demonstrated ability to manage people in union and non-union environments

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and relationship-building skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to think strategically, manage others, and delegate work

  • Experience creating, monitoring, and adhering to budgets, production calendars, and schedules

  • Broad understanding of technical theatre and/or event production

  • Diplomacy and tact in negotiating and mediating artistic and technical discussions

  • Ability to provide accurate staffing and production budget estimates after reviewing technical riders, scripts, or proposals

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and allocate time and resources effectively

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Strong computer skills, including Excel, and familiarity with industry-specific software such as Vectorworks

  • Experience reading ground plans, light plots, and theatrical specifications; basic knowledge of ETC lighting and Yamaha digital consoles is an asset

  • Adaptive, proactive, and flexible approach to work

  • Enthusiasm for collaborative work with diverse individuals and teams

  • Commitment to both community-engaged and fully professional arts shows and events
