The Coastal Jazz & Blues Society (CJBS) is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to building community in Vancouver through exceptional music experiences. Since 1985, we have produced the internationally renowned Vancouver International Jazz Festival, presenting world-class artists and spotlighting local talent across jazz, blues, world, creative, and improvised music. Beyond the Festival, we support artistic collaborations, education, community programming, and cultural partnerships throughout the year. We operate on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil Waututh) peoples. JOB DESCRIPTION:
Coastal Jazz is seeking a Director of Marketing and Corporate Partnerships who brings both strategic leadership and a distinctive artistic point of view. This senior leadership role integrates corporate partners and sponsors, marketing, brand building, and creative direction in service of our mandate to elevate adventurous music and deepen community engagement. The ideal candidate can seamlessly blend revenue generation and creative priorities to mutually enhance one another. You will shape how Coastal Jazz is seen, heard, and experienced. This position reports to the Executive Director and supervises the Digital Marketing Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate closely with Programming, Development, Production, and Administrative teams to ensure cohesive storytelling and partnership alignment.

  • Manage relationships with contractors and agencies, including designers, publicists, and creative partners.

  • Supervise marketing staff and interns as required.

  • Represent Coastal Jazz at industry, community, and partner events.

  • Lead all stages of the partnership and sponsorship lifecycle, including lead research, proposal development, negotiation, activation, stewardship, and renewal.

  • Identify and build partnerships that reflect the artistic and community values of Coastal Jazz.

  • Deliver high-quality partner activations that integrate meaningfully into Festival and year-round programming.

  • Produce post-Festival reports and impact summaries that capture quantitative results and storytelling elements.

  • Coordinate contracts and invoicing with Finance and Administration.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive annual and multi-year marketing strategies grounded in data and artistic storytelling.

  • Lead marketing campaigns across digital, earned, and traditional channels with a focus on creativity, clarity, and cultural relevance.

  • Translate the artistic identity of Coastal Jazz into cohesive visuals, messaging, and audience experiences.

  • Guide creative production and collaborate with designers and content creators to maintain a distinctive, high-quality brand image.

  • Use CRM and ticketing data to inform strategy and campaign optimization.

  • Manage website content, email programs, and on-site Festival marketing.

  • Lead media relations efforts and serve as a public representative when appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in sponsorship, marketing, partnerships, or related roles, preferably with festivals, events, arts, or entertainment organizations.

  • Passion for live music, jazz, and festivals.

  • Growth mindset; flexible, innovative, and highly collaborative.

  • Demonstrated track record of securing and stewarding corporate sponsors and achieving revenue targets.

  • Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and project management skills.

  • Proven experience running multi-channel marketing campaigns with measurable ROI, including digital advertising, email, social media, and PR.

  • Experience with data-driven audience segmentation and paid social optimization.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; confident public speaker and front-facing representative.

  • Creative sensibility with a strong eye for branding and program storytelling.

  • Comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

REMUNERATION:
$80,000–$90,000 per year, depending on experience, plus extended health benefits, four weeks of paid vacation, and annual holiday closure.
