JOB DESCRIPTION:
The City of Burnaby is seeking auxiliary Special Events Assistants to support the delivery of a wide range of special events and festivals. This role is well suited to highly organized individuals with strong time management skills who are passionate about event production.
This is an auxiliary position with hours based on operational needs and no guaranteed hours of work. Shifts may include on-call work, weekends during July and August, and statutory holidays. Typical shifts are six hours in length, starting as early as 8:00 am and ending as late as 11:00 pm, Monday through Sunday.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the Special Events Team in developing, planning, and coordinating special events and festivals
Assist with site design, layout, and setup
Liaise with vendors, performers, and event participants
Source supplies, equipment, and resources for events
Prepare reports and maintain administrative files
Lead and support junior staff as required
Provide on-site event support and perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of Grade 12
Related work experience supporting events and/or festivals
Background in arts and culture, event planning, stage management, or project management is an asset
Strong clerical and organizational skills
Experience leading staff or volunteers
Experience booking and coordinating artists or performers
Strong written communication skills, including professional emails and event reports
Experience working with community organizations and sourcing event resources
Valid BC Driver’s License
Occupational First Aid Level 1 is an asset
Availability on weekends during July and August and on statutory holidays is required
Police Information Check required

REMUNERATION:
$29.48 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 rates)
