monument to the people involved in BC’s fishing industry. The National Historic Site is operated by the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society, a non-profit society. Collaborating with Parks Canada, the Society preserves Canada’s West Coast fishing history and presents it in an engaging and relevant way.

Job Description:

We are seeking an outgoing and self-motivated individual to assist the Audience Engagement team in evaluating visitor needs and implementing methods to improve self-guided visitor engagement with the site. The Museum Coordinator - Audience Engagement Assistant will report primarily to the Curatorial Program Manager. This role will play a significant role in expanding the range of opportunities available to self-guided visitors in the site, in order to create further opportunities for audience connection and satisfaction.

Hours:
This is a part-time, temporary position at 35 hours weekly; the position is expected to begin on June 1st, 2026 and run for a total of 10 weeks. This position requires a flexible work schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays to coordinate with programs and special events.

Conditions of Employment:
This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and
• have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. A satisfactory vulnerable sector screening with a police service will also be required.

Responsibilities:

Specific tasks and duties assigned to the Museum Coordinator - Audience Engagement Assistant include:

• Evaluate the current self-guided visitor offer available at the Cannery museum and identifying potential gaps in the experience.
• Identify topics/stories missing from the site experience and determining which have the highest visitor interest.
• Identify opportunities to include diverse perspectives, such as 2SLGBT+ history, Indigenous content, etc.
• Create a template for self-guided history “trails” that can connect audiences with the perspectives identified as priorities.
• Evaluate opportunities for further engagement less-frequented permanent exhibits such as the Boiler House Theatre and Herring Reduction Plant.
• Support in the development and implementation of Audience Engagement process improvements, as needed.
• Support with preparation for Public Programs and Special Events, as needed.
• Other related duties as required and directed by the Curatorial Program Manager.

Skills and Experience:
• Enrollment in an arts and humanities, or museum studies program.
• Interest in visitor studies and/or museum programming is an asset.
• Competent in oral and written communication in English.
• Strong analytical and assessment skills.
• Experience working at a museum is an asset.
• Fluency in English is required, fluency in French or other languages is a strong asset.
• Willingness to work in a national historic site and in shared spaces.
• Strong administrative skills in organization, record keeping, and data entry.
• Experience with MS Office software, including MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook.
• Ability to work within a team and independently after adequate training.

Remuneration:

$19.50 per hour @ 7 hours per day for 5 days a week plus 6% in lieu of vacation and benefits. Comprehensive training will be provided by the employer along with 1:1 mentorship provided by the Curatorial Program Manager
