Job Description:

The Patron Services Attendant is a part-time casual position. With a strong commitment and willingness to work with others, you are prepared to go the extra mile for our guests and your colleagues. This role requires flexibility: Some of our shows are larger and on the main stage, while others are smaller studio shows. You are personable and adaptable, and comfortable providing front-line customer service in support of Gateway’s performances and events. The Patron Services Attendant will oversee either box office or bar operations on a shift-to-shift basis.

Responsibilities:

Front of House responsibilities:
• Welcoming Gateway’s audiences and serving snacks and beverages to theatre patrons in a fun, fast-paced environment under the direction of the Patron Services Supervisor
• Ensuring proper accounting and controls of concession products and reconciling sales at the beginning and end of shifts
• Taking stock of bar supplies and noting for the Patron Services Supervisor and Patron Services Associate when inventory is low
• Responding to patron enquiries and conveying questions to the appropriate staff member for follow up as needed
• Delivering exceptional customer service while demonstrating and upholding Gateway Theatre’s values and policies
• Troubleshooting any challenges that may arise during an event, promptly bringing any urgent or serious issues to the attention of the Patron Services Supervisor
• Assisting the Patron Services Supervisor in overseeing the volunteers, as needed
• Representing Gateway Theatre in a professional, welcoming, and inclusive manner

Box Office responsibilities:
• Selling tickets, processing course registrations in person, by email and by phone
• Responding to patron inquiries in person, by email and by phone
• Preparing box office reports as required by the Patron Services department
• Reconciling debit and credit sales each day
• Handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism
• Delivering exceptional customer service while demonstrating and upholding Gateway Theatre’s values and policies
• Representing Gateway Theatre in a professional, welcoming, and inclusive manner

Qualifications:

Candidates with relevant, transferable skills who do not exactly meet the specifications below are encouraged to apply
• Fluency in English, both oral and written; Cantonese or Mandarin are an asset
• Bartending, food service, and other customer service experience
• Experience working with or overseeing volunteers an asset
• Experience with Square and Spektrix are an asset
• Ability to listen to concerns and respond to challenges with empathy and generosity
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to delegate and prioritize tasks in a confident manner
• Ability to move between independent self-directed tasks and collaborative work
• Comfortable working alone and able to lift heavy supplies on occasion

Requirements and Certifications
• Legally able to work in Canada (Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or existing open work permit)
• Legally able to serve alcohol, with a valid “Serving it Right” certificate
• Occupational First Aid Level 1
• Foodsafe Level 1 certificate

All training is provided and paid for by the employer.
