Together, we create free, all-ages art-making experiences that centre non-visual and Blind-led access, while welcoming participants from all communities, including d/Deaf, non-verbal, multilingual, and non-disabled people.

Job Description:

Temporary Tactile artist collective is seeking Intervenor / Access Assistants to help staff an upcoming outdoor tactile art workshop series. This is an access-focused role supporting all participants, including blind, low-vision, and disabled participants.

The series runs across two dates: Saturday, August 15 and Saturday, September 5, 2026.

Each day is a 4-hour shift, 10:30 AM–2:30 PM, at Main Street & 50th Avenue Plaza, Vancouver.

We are hiring either 4 individuals (one per shift) or 2 people who can work both dates. When you apply, please tell us whether you want a single shift or both.

The workshop is centred on non-visual and Blind participation and takes place outdoors, rain or shine. The role combines intervenor duties with floating access support.

Responsibilities:

- Escort participants to and from the nearby washrooms at Sunset Community Centre (a short 2-block walk away)
- Check in with Blind and Partially-Sighted participants to assist with tool and material selection
- Act as an intervenor to help participants navigate the workshop area safely and confidently
- Be alert and ready to assist when needed, even during quiet stretches ("mature enough to be bored but not distracted")
- Wear an N95 mask if requested by a participant (masks provided)

Qualifications:

- Comfort talking/communicating with strangers is a must
- Comfort with being touched to assist people who are Blind is a must
- Ability to walk or travel 2 blocks unassisted, and to assist another person in getting to the washroom
- Willingness to work outdoors, rain or shine, in neutral clothing you don't mind getting a little dirty
- Communicating in either ASL or English is a plus; we also welcome people learning English who want to practice, or who are non-verbal and have a method to communicate with the public
