Call for Board Members

Organization:
All Bodies Dance Project

Deadline:
July 31, 2025

Organization Description:
All Bodies Dance Project (ABDP) is an inclusive dance company located on unceded homelands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples (Vancouver, BC). In our work, differences are regarded as creative strengths as we explore the choreographic possibilities of diverse ways of moving and perceiving. Our work straddles between labels of community-engaged and professional dance practice. We blur these boundaries as we prioritize new cultural practices in integrated dance and expand beyond traditional euro-centric notions of dance training to value the lived experience of movers both with and without disabilities. Our practice aims to dismantle assumptions, biases and default notions around contemporary dance, the theatre, and the dancing body. We approach accessibility tools and practices as sources of generative artistic possibility that welcome new understandings of the body in motion. Through training and mentorship ABDP creates opportunities for diverse artists to research and create innovative, inclusive dance.

All Bodies Dance Project Mandate:

  1. To offer accessible and inclusive dance classes and workshops for persons of all abilities.

  2. To create and perform new and innovative works of contemporary dance choreography

  3. To cultivate a diverse community of integrated dance practitioners and to nurture, grow and advance the field of inclusive dance in Vancouver, British Columbia.

  4. To challenge and shift cultural perspectives on the dancing body

ABDP Vision:
A world where dance is for everybody.

Mission:
We do this by:
● Offering accessible and inclusive dance classes for all people and all bodies.
● Creating opportunities for diverse artists to practice, research and produce innovative, inclusive dance.
● Providing dance training and mentorship to under-represented artists.

Core Values:
Accessibility
ABDP works to remove physical, economic, and social barriers to participation and to create inclusive spaces for all people to be a part of dance. We recognize that accessibility is not universal and are committed to ongoing learning and dialogue.

Artistry
We value experimentation, research, and exploration in dance making. Our practice questions what dance is and what it can be, in order to challenge conventions, innovate, and contribute to the field of contemporary dance.

Care
Our work is carried out with thoughtful consideration and respect for the bodies, hearts, minds, spirits and wellbeing of the people involved in our activities.

Collaboration
All of our work is relational. Our practice prioritizes the exchange of knowledge and ideas. We strive to make decisions through consultation, dialogue and collaboration.

Community
We view dance as a way to build community. Our work seeks to create trusting and diverse communities of movers.

Joy
We create space for collective joy, delight, and celebration.
