JOB DESCRIPTION:
This internship role is funded through the BC Arts Council Early Career Development Program. The Assistant Storyteller works cross-departmentally, supporting storytelling and communications initiatives. The successful candidate will have foundational skills in social media engagement and narrative development, and can synthesize multi-element projects clearly and succinctly.
With the guidance of the Head of Communications, the candidate will hone active listening, copywriting, narrative strategy, cross-platform delivery, and technical skills in photography and videography. Depending on interest, there may be opportunities to contribute to longform story arcs, fundraising campaigns, and documentation of exhibitions and objects through human-centred storytelling.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning and Relationships (50%)
Work closely with the Head of Communications to develop communications materials.
Maintain an active presence on 221A channels, including social media and general inbox.
Collaborate with third-party contractors to disseminate materials on time.
Assist with materials aligned with 221A’s communications strategy.
Content Creation and Branding (30%)
Develop compelling stories and narratives for various channels.
Support digital marketing campaigns and audience engagement.
Manage newsletters, email marketing, and social media updates.
Develop outreach materials and partnerships to increase participation.
Data and Reporting (20%)
Track and report tasks clearly for interdepartmental flow.
Use analytics tools to evaluate communication performance.
Working Conditions:
Primary office at 825 Pacific St., with occasional work at other 221A facilities.
Exposure to regular building noise and activity.
Requires concentration on computer/mobile devices and occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs).
Adherence to WorkSafeBC standards; PPE provided where necessary.
Computer and phone provided or compensated.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of related communications experience (copywriting, editing, web design, content production).
Communications or Marketing accreditation, or working toward one (not a full-time student).
Experience in arts administration or nonprofit work is an asset.
Meets BC Arts Council Early Career Development Program’s definition of “Basic Training.”
Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English; ASL or other languages an asset).
Experience in content creation and digital formatting.
Strong organization and social media scheduling skills.
Flexible, creative, and detail-oriented.
Proficient with MS Office/Google Drive.
Understanding of the cultural/nonprofit arts sector.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Tact, discretion, and collaboration skills.
Cultural competence with artists, low-income individuals, and cultural workers.

REMUNERATION:
Time Frame: November 17, 2025 – March 15, 2026
Hours: 18 hours per week
Compensation: $28,080 salary ($1,170 bimonthly) plus 6% paid vacation
