Founded in 1971, the JMABC collects, preserves, and shares all aspects of BC Jewish community history, from the Gold Rush to the present day. The archival collection includes documents, photographs, and oral histories recounting the history of Jewish life in BC. These materials provide the foundation for innovative public programming, exhibits, and publications that celebrate and build awareness of the BC Jewish community’s history.
The JMABC serves as the ambassador of the community, building bridges and fostering understanding both within the Jewish community and with other cultural communities in BC. The organization strives for a just and vibrant society and aims to enhance and expand understanding of British Columbia’s Jewish history as a vital component of the province’s diverse heritage. JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reflecting the JMABC’s steady growth over the years and its bright future ahead, the organization is now recruiting for a newly created position of full-time Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization into its next chapter.
Reporting to the volunteer Board, the ED is the senior professional responsible for shaping the organization’s strategic direction and strengthening community engagement. Key opportunities include:
Engaging the baby boomer generation in collecting and preserving their histories.
Responding to the increasing number of research requests from both the academic community and general public.
Developing and delivering additional programming, in both physical and digital spaces, that leverages JMABC’s rich archival materials.
Expanding the organization’s reach beyond the Lower Mainland to serve the entire province.
Leading and supporting a growing professional team to ensure the effective delivery of JMABC’s mission.
While supported by Directors of Archives, Programming, and Operations, the ED will have direct, hands-on responsibility for Development and Fundraising.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Development and Fundraising: Lead all aspects of fundraising strategy and implementation across a range of revenue sources.
Programming and Community Engagement: Provide leadership to the Director of Programming in planning and delivering programming that reflects the BC Jewish community’s history, values, and traditions.
Archives and Collections: Support the Director of Archives in managing the community’s archival collections and resources.
Communications and Public Engagement: Oversee strategic communications to ensure consistency with JMABC’s mission, values, and identity.
Organizational Management: Support the Director of Operations in financial management, human resources, strategic planning, and compliance.
Governance and Board Relations: Work closely with the Board of Directors to support effective governance and alignment with strategic priorities.
Working Conditions:
Full-time role with flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends for events and meetings.
Occasional travel within British Columbia for events and outreach.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in a non-profit or cultural organization, preferably within the Jewish community.
Proven track record in fundraising, donor cultivation, and grant writing.
Strong knowledge of Jewish culture, history, and traditions.
Experience in program development, management, and evaluation.
Familiarity with archives, collections management, or cultural preservation.
Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
Strong financial management and budgeting skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff, Board, and community stakeholders.
Preferred:
Experience working with a BC-based non-profit Board in a leadership capacity.
Knowledge of Canadian and BC arts, culture, and heritage funding environments.
Experience managing archival collections and knowledge of digitization tools.
Hebrew language proficiency is an asset.

REMUNERATION:
$90,000 – $110,000 annually, based on experience, plus generous benefits.
