JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Directors for providing leadership in all aspects of the Penticton Art Gallery. They are responsible for organizational leadership, strategic planning, operations, human resources, financial management, and community relations. The successful candidate will foster a positive, inclusive, and creative environment while ensuring financial sustainability and cultural relevance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Management
• Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and maintain a 3-year strategic plan with input from staff and key stakeholders
• Submit an annual analysis of progress toward strategic initiatives
• Report and recommend action to the Board on risk management, operations, and succession planning
• Prepare an annual plan for exhibitions, programs, and fundraisers with staff input
• Submit an annual report to the Board of Directors on recent acquisitions, de-accessioning recommendations, and stewardship of the Permanent Collection
Financial Management
• Prepare and implement quarterly budgets consistent with business practices
• Oversee bookkeeping and financial reporting
• Prepare, submit, and complete grant applications
• Identify and secure additional grants through ongoing research
• Negotiate funding with municipal and regional governments and agencies
• Ensure accountability and control procedures for financial operations
• Coordinate and plan fundraising events with staff and the Board
• Ensure Gallery operations comply with the BC Society’s Act
Operational Management
• Hire, train, and support staff and volunteers
• Conduct annual staff performance reviews
• Provide governance for volunteer committees
• Perform administrative and facility management duties, including security and janitorial oversight
• Determine best use of building spaces and oversee facility rentals
• Secure the annual lease agreement with the city
Community Engagement and Collaboration
• Collaborate with community partners to elevate the profile of visual arts
• Celebrate accomplishments with the Board, staff, volunteers, and members
• Cultivate positive relationships with cultural agencies, institutions, associations, volunteers, donors, and the public
• Establish a donor sponsorship program for individuals and businesses
• Serve as the Gallery’s spokesperson at meetings, conferences, and public events
Marketing and Promotion
• Develop and implement marketing strategies
• Ensure brand consistency across the website, social media, and organizational materials
• Direct staff in scheduling promotional initiatives across print, media, and digital platforms
• Manage media relations and partnerships with cultural organizations
Additional Responsibilities
• Organize fundraising events and exhibition openings
• Maintain the highest standards of Collection Management for the Permanent Collection
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the arts sector
• Post-secondary degree in art or equivalent professional experience
• Demonstrated expertise in arts administration, nonprofit management, or related fields
• Proven experience with stakeholder relations, fundraising, and community outreach
• Strong organizational, leadership, financial management, and communication skills

REMUNERATION:
Salary $60,000–$65,000/yr
