Arts On (the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Arts Council) provides opportunities for arts education for all ages, professional performing arts activities, and support of artistic community initiatives across the Ridge Meadows region. The organization has been serving the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows since 1971.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Arts On Learning Programs, taking place in locations across the Ridge-Meadows region, include instruction and learning activities in the visual arts—painting, drawing, textile and fibre arts, ceramics, and digital media—and in the performing arts of theatre, dance, and music. Programs are offered for a wide range of ages, from infants to seniors. Arts On is seeking contract instructors passionate about fine arts and arts education for children to design and deliver visual arts programming for children and youth. Instructors will teach classes, spring break and summer camps, and workshops in painting, printmaking, sculpture, drawing, collage, and mixed media at various locations, including SD42 schools.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and deliver high-quality visual arts programming for preschool and school-aged children, teaching a variety of mediums and techniques.

  • Transport program supplies to and from teaching locations as directed by Arts On staff.

  • Prepare each teaching space with necessary tools and materials before students arrive and ensure thorough cleanup afterward.

  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback and encouragement to support artistic and skill development through clear, positive communication.

  • Maintain clear and responsive communication with Arts On staff.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and a strong commitment to student success and program excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Visual Arts and/or Early Childhood Education, or equivalent training and experience.

  • Minimum three years’ experience and proven success as a teacher/instructor working with young students of various ages and abilities.

  • Strong classroom management skills with a high degree of independence.

  • Availability for a varied schedule, including weekday and weekend days/evenings, as well as Pro-D day and school holiday camps (half or full days).

  • Reliable transportation and ability to transport supplies to multiple locations around Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge.

  • Interest and enthusiasm for the full range of Arts On Learning programs.

  • Valid First Aid & CPR certificate is an asset.

  • Must complete a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check.

  • Professional references will be requested.
