Established in 2015, Griffin is a non-profit art gallery and residency located in North Vancouver. GRIFFIN is a non-collecting institution that has quickly become a vibrant contributor to the North Vancouver cultural landscape. Griffin promotes and celebrates visual art by supporting artists and curators in the production of new work through its residency program, sharing private collections with the public, and producing new research on contemporary art from BC and around the world through its exhibitions and public programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Griffin Art Projects is seeking a Gallery Manager to support daily operations, facility management, marketing, and exhibition coordination. This role develops and implements strategies that ensure effective operations and promotion of Griffin Art Projects and its activities. Under the supervision of the Director, the Gallery Manager is responsible for administration, marketing coordination, and occasional assistance with facility management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Problem-solve and manage multiple time-sensitive deadlines and detailed tasks independently with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Manage operational and marketing areas of the program on time and on budget while maintaining statistics and documentation.

  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate understanding of the local and regional arts community.

  • Work 10 hours per week (schedule determined with the candidate), generally between Thursday and Saturday during Griffin’s regular hours of 9:00 am–5:00 pm.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Art or Art History, Museum or Curatorial Studies, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a museum, public art gallery, or artist-run centre, with demonstrated experience in administration and marketing.

  • Knowledge of best practices in gallery processes and procedures, including installation, storage, and handling of artworks and exhibitions.

  • Experience working directly with curators, artists, preparators, interns, stakeholders, contractors, and the public.

  • Knowledge of best practices in marketing, media and community relations, and audience development in the arts.

  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities; able to work effectively with minimal supervision in a small team environment.

  • Ability to work tactfully with colleagues, partners, and the public.

  • Ability to assist with planning, research, preparation, and installation of exhibitions.

  • Ability to complete administrative tasks and prepare correspondence and reports.

  • Ability to manage budgets, analyze statistics, and maintain sound project and records management.

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Squarespace, and MailChimp.
