Located at 600 Campbell Avenue in Vancouver's Strathcona neighbourhood, for 78 years, the Russian Hall has stood as a gathering place for art, activism, and community. As a multi-use venue in East Vancouver, the Hall supports regular programming that includes rehearsals, performances, concerts, community dances, community meetings, and public markets.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a self-directed and community-minded Outreach and Community Engagement Worker to lead a mapping and research process aimed at strengthening relationships with the surrounding neighbourhood and aligning programming with the Hall's founding values. The successful candidate will work closely with the rental manager/caretaker and the board to understand current use of the building, connect with key community partners, develop a proposal for future programming rooted in the Hall's legacy of education, social justice, collective food preparation, and the arts, and produce an initial series of events at the Hall.
32-week contract
12 hours/week
$35/hour
Start date: September 22, 2025
Finish date: May 15, 2026
Opportunity for renewal or expansion into an ongoing position
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research and map the Russian Hall's local neighbourhood, including cultural, social, and community assets
Conduct interviews and outreach with renters, neighbours, arts organizations, and community groups
Collaborate with the rental manager/caretaker and the board to review current building usage
Program and support five public events, workshops, dinners, etc. as part of community engagement
Develop multilingual and accessible communications (online and print)
Deliverables:
A document at the end of contract that summarizes the work completed and proposes future programming that aligns with the Hall's historical mandate
A minimum of five key events/initiatives by end of contract (May 15, 2026)
Attend monthly meetings with FRCBC representatives
Attend and report at a FRCBC board meeting every second month on developing activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
Background in community engagement, organizing, or cultural planning/programming
Experience conducting interviews, community mapping, or research
Strong interpersonal, intercultural, and written communication skills
Interest in arts and performance, especially within community contexts
Knowledge of East Vancouver's cultural and social landscape is an asset
Independently motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
