Temporary Part-Time (60%) Job Share Position (ASAP until Aug. 31, 2026)

The Print Technician 2, Digital Output Centre, provides support for the University’s Digital Output Centre (DOC), which provides professional printing, scanning, vinyl cutting, and other production services to the university community on a fee-for-service basis. The Technician processes job orders, assists users, keeps detailed records, and troubleshoots files, systems, and equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Check and prepare client files for output processing, print/output jobs, and troubleshoot difficult files. Inspect and evaluate quality of jobs before delivery.

  • Assist clients in preparing files for output, provide advice, and suggest production methods to reduce client costs.

  • Advise and assist clients in creating work order forms. Resolve uncertainties, create invoices, process transactions, and maintain records.

  • Provide orientations to DOC services, demonstrate safe use of materials and equipment, and supervise student use of equipment.

  • Schedule appointments, accommodate walk-ins, and assign resources effectively.

  • Maintain financial, inventory, and other records accurately.

  • Troubleshoot systems and equipment; consult Print Technician 3 for complex errors.

  • Perform routine equipment maintenance as directed.

  • Maintain work environment safety, efficiency, and cleanliness; adhere to WHMIS, WCB, and OH+S policies.

  • Maintain professional relationships with students, staff, and faculty to support a productive learning environment.

  • Assist in installation and configuration of systems and equipment, and provide input into operations.

  • Perform maintenance duties for curriculum self-serve printers and release stations.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two-year diploma in design, print production, or applied arts, plus up to two years of additional specialized training.

  • Minimum three years’ experience in digital file troubleshooting (MAC and PC), digital print output, and scanning in a production environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Exposure to a colour-managed digital work environment and calibration software.

  • Experience providing technical demonstrations at various levels of expertise.

  • Strong skills with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, and Excel.

  • Experience with raster image processing (RIP) and Imposition software.

  • Experience maintaining PDF Filled Forms (asset).

  • Experience in a post-secondary setting (asset).

  • Knowledge of various output devices including high-speed printers, inkjet printers, vinyl cutters, and binding equipment.

  • Ability to assess and resolve tier I software and equipment issues.

  • Understanding of scanning technology and digital colour matching systems.

  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

  • Ability to work independently and maintain composure in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Ability to lift 18 kg (40 lbs).

  • Some knowledge of traditional photographic, printmaking, and offset press technologies desirable.
