Job Description:
The Teen Band Director will work with youth from Grades 7-12 to develop and lead a non-auditioning community youth band from 4:00 - 6:00 on Friday afternoons. The band will rehearse and prepare pieces to play at three community events as follows: a Christmas fundraiser (end of November), a poetry cafe (mid-March) and a youth-led church service (early June).

Responsibilities:
Assess level of participant capacity and adapt music accordingly
Select songs to be learned for each season
Prepare music for each instrument as needed.
Set-up/Take-down and lead the Friday rehearsals (4:00 - 6:00 p.m.) each week, September - June (see calendar above)
Train band assistant for help with tech, organizing music, equipment set up and take down and other supportive tasks.
Qualifications:
What you bring:
An ease working with youth that creates an environment of confidence and fun
Experience and/or training in teaching music skills to young people with a range of competencies
Ability to transpose sheet music for different instruments
Reliable, punctual, personable
An open-minded, open-hearted approach to a spiritual community
Police record check required.

Remuneration:
This is a contracted position with Canadian Memorial United Church, September - June. Renewable annually. It pays $40 x 4 hrs per week for each season plus an additional 4 hours for each end-of-season event.
