JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Collections Access Manager will be responsible for managing the Indigenous Collection Access Program as well as all other collections-related access and research visits to MOA. This includes, but is not limited to: facilitating community and researcher visits, administering grants, coordinating collection access, and supporting researchers and community members during visits. This position also conducts provenance research on the MOA collections in support of repatriation, collections access, curatorial initiatives, and supports other special projects related to the collections. Additionally, the position contributes to policy development, strategic planning, and museum committees, while also training staff, interns, and students on collection-related topics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the Indigenous Collections Access Program, including grants and visit facilitation

  • Facilitate all access requests to MOA’s collections for researchers and communities

  • Conduct provenance research to support repatriation and curatorial work

  • Coordinate with curators, archivists, and librarians to ensure coordinated information access

  • Provide access to object information using the collections management database

  • Support the MOA Repatriation Committee and oversee related documentation and appraisals

  • Respond to community inquiries and provide collections advice to cultural institutions

  • Contribute to strategic planning, museum policy, and participate in committees

  • Train and supervise interns, staff, and volunteers

  • Conduct UBC Museum Studies classes related to the position

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and minimum of four years related experience

  • Awareness and sensitivity to issues surrounding Indigenous and originating communities

  • Experience working in a university and public-facing environment preferred

  • Strong research skills and familiarity with collections registration and databases

  • Knowledge of cultural property laws, ethics, and museum standards

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Experience with preventative conservation practices and object handling

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Familiarity with UNDRIP, UBC Indigenous Strategic Plan, copyright, and privacy legislation

REMUNERATION:
Compensation Range $6,251.00 – $8,986.00 CAD Monthly. The midpoint of the range represents an employee who possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred, or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.
