JOB DESCRIPTION:
Are you passionate about Tap dance and enjoy teaching a variety of ages? Join the City of Surrey’s Culture division and contribute to the innovation and growth of our arts community through your development and instruction of performing art courses and camps.
Clayton Community Arts is hiring Performing Arts Program Instructors to develop and instruct Tap classes for children, youth, and adults in the Fall 2025 season. Our Performing Arts Program Instructors have the opportunity to teach classes to a variety of participants throughout the year and to participate in hands-on outreach community activities across Surrey.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Submit detailed lesson plans and supply lists for each class, camp, or workshop.
• Set-up and clean-up of each class.
• Teach group Tap classes.
• Provide a safe and fun environment for all students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We’re looking for dynamic, creative leaders with demonstrated knowledge and experience in tap and dance education. Our ideal candidates are effective communicators with strong classroom management skills.
The successful candidate must have:
• A degree/diploma in Dance or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of 2 years previous teaching experience, as well as a thorough understanding of dance pedagogy and child development.
• A current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certificate.
Required skills include:
• Able to assess age appropriateness of lessons and materials and modify lessons as needed based on students’ abilities.
• Education and experience in tap dance.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and relational skills with participants and staff.
• Effective problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
