JOB DESCRIPTION:
Are you passionate about theatre and enjoy teaching a variety of ages? Join the City of Surrey’s Culture division and contribute to the innovation and growth of our arts community through your development and instruction of performing art courses and camps.
Clayton Community Arts is hiring Performing Arts Program Instructors to develop and instruct theatre classes for our Fall 2025 season. We are seeking instructors who can teach a variety of theatre styles—such as improv and theatre games—and are comfortable teaching all ages. Our Performing Arts Program Instructors have the opportunity to teach classes to preschool, children, youth, and adult participants throughout the year and to participate in hands-on outreach community activities across Surrey.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Submit detailed lesson plans and supply lists for each class, camp, or workshop.
Set up and clean up each class.
Teach group theatre classes.
Provide a safe and fun environment for all students.
Education and experience in teaching the fundamentals of improvisation, comedy, and dramatic arts.
Able to assess age appropriateness of lessons and materials and modify lessons as needed based on students’ abilities.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and relational skills with participants and staff.
Effective problem-solving skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We’re looking for dynamic, creative leaders with demonstrated knowledge and experience in theatre and performance education. Our ideal candidates are effective communicators with strong classroom management skills.
The successful candidate must have:
A degree/diploma in Theatre, Performance, or a related field.
A minimum of 2 years previous teaching experience, as well as a thorough understanding of theatre pedagogy.
A current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certificate.
