JOB DESCRIPTION:
Are you passionate about vocal performance and enjoy teaching a variety of ages? Join the City of Surrey’s Culture division and contribute to the innovation and growth of our arts community through your development and instruction of performing art courses and camps.

Clayton Community Arts is hiring Vocal Instructors to develop and instruct private and group vocal lessons for our Fall 2025 season. Our Vocal Instructors will have the opportunity to teach classes to preschool, children, youth and adult participants throughout the year and to participate in hands-on outreach community activities across Surrey. You will also work directly with the Performing Arts Programmer, other art educators and instructors, volunteers, and staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Submit detailed lesson plans and supply lists for each class, camp, or workshop.

  • Set up and clean up each class.

  • Teach private and group vocal lessons.

  • Provide a safe and fun environment for all students.

  • Education and experience in vocal performance and music education.

  • Able to assess age appropriateness of lessons and materials and modify lessons as needed based on students’ abilities.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relational skills with participants and staff.

  • Effective problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
We’re looking for dynamic, creative leaders with demonstrated knowledge and experience in vocal performance and music education. Our ideal candidates are effective communicators with strong classroom management skills. The successful candidate must have:

  • A degree/diploma in Vocal Performance or a related field.

  • Certified RCM Instructor, having completed minimum Level 10 RCM Education.

  • Experience with vocal coaching, private music instruction, private lessons and leading exam preparation.

  • A minimum of 2 years previous teaching experience, as well as a thorough understanding of musical pedagogy.

  • A current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certificate.
