JOB DESCRIPTION:
Temporary Part-Time (40%) Job Share Leave Replacement Position (ASAP until March 2026)
Hours: 8:30am to 4:30pm / Thursday and Friday
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for daily maintenance operations for the University, working under the direction of the General Manager, Facilities. Tasks are assigned via the interactive Help Desk System. The role works collaboratively with the Materials Handler and other staff to ensure high levels of service across the University.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work collaboratively with the General Manager, Help Desk, Service Provider, staff, students, faculty, and other stakeholders to ensure daily operations are met, providing constant feedback.
Communicate via the Help Desk System to provide updates and notifications.
Assist in moving and reinstating furniture and fixtures, installing shelves, hanging artwork, and signage.
Perform minor maintenance and repairs, replace parts, and install new or replacement equipment.
Survey work areas to determine maintenance needs and prepare cost estimates.
Consult with the Service Provider for alternate cost estimates and provide recommendations.
Prepare purchase requisitions and inspect work performed by Service Providers.
Inform General Manager of any maintenance or repairs that cannot be carried out immediately.
Collaborate with Facilities team members to ensure Creative Activity installations meet standards.
Conduct work in compliance with OH+S and WHMIS regulations.
Maintain equipment lists, log books, and written reports.
Maintain adequate parts and supplies by advising the General Manager of stock levels.
Maintain Emily Carr’s equipment, tools, and parts inventory.
Assist in room set-up and tear-down for external bookings.
Perform routine classroom inspections to ensure cleanliness and maintenance.
Attend professional development and trade-related courses to maintain currency in the field.
Participate as an active member of the OH+S Committee, Graduation Committee, and Fire Safety Committee.
Provide backup coverage for the Materials Handler during busy periods or staff shortages.
Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade 12 completion.
Minimum three years’ experience in Facilities Engineering, preferably in a post-secondary environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificate required.
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence required.
Forklift and SkyJack Certification required.
