JOB DESCRIPTION:
Patron Services at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts provides exceptional guest service. The Patron Services Attendant serves three venues: the 1,400-seat Chan Shun Concert Hall, the 275-seat Telus Studio Theatre, and the 160-seat Royal Bank Cinema. This role is the public face of the venue, welcoming patrons and delivering premium customer service while ensuring that health and safety policies and standards are upheld.
The Patron Services Attendant maintains a broad knowledge of Chan Centre ticketing and front-of-house amenities, assisting with services such as ticket-taking, wayfinding, ushering, coat check, bartending, and pre-ordering. The position is part-time, on-call, and hourly, with flexible scheduling based on event activity. Applicants must be available for at least two shifts per week, one of which falls on a weekend.
This position is within the CUPE 2590 Union and reports to the Manager, Patron Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide premium customer service to patrons before, during, and after events.
Welcome patrons and ensure safety before, during, and after performances.
Address accessibility needs, answer questions, and respond to patron concerns.
Resolve routine issues and escalate complex ones as needed.
Maintain venue appearance and presentation before and after events.
Usher patrons to their seats.
Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures and evacuation plans.
Assist with lobby set-up and dismantling for events.
Serve patrons at the bar during pre-show and intermissions.
Restock consumables and supplies.
Collaborate with other Patron Services team members and departments.
Uphold Chan Centre policies and standards.
Wear a provided uniform during events.
Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum of two years’ experience in the performing arts or a related field.
Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including those in conflict with one’s own.
Commitment to enhancing awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent customer service background in a theatre or concert hall.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong verbal communication skills with people of varied abilities and backgrounds.
Tact, diplomacy, and discretion when dealing with patrons.
Ability to navigate stairs, stand for two hours, and lift/carry up to 15 kg.
Professional demeanor.
Serving It Right certification (asset).
Level 1 First Aid certification (asset).
