Presentation House Theatre (PHT) is the North Shore’s professional theatre company, where ideas play and grow into quality performing arts for all ages. For more than 40 years, friends and strangers have gathered in this welcoming space to enjoy innovative programming and quality professional shows. PHT believes that professional theatre is for everyone. Every show presented or produced will be of the highest professional standard while also appealing to the diversity of the North Shore. JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is funded by the United Way Work Experience Opportunities Grant and is restricted to people who face barriers to employment, as detailed in the qualifications section. Patron Service Attendants are the first point of contact for PHT’s diverse patrons, setting the tone for a positive experience. Reporting to the Patron Services Manager, they may work in Front of House, Box Office, or Concession, depending on the shift. Patience, a welcoming attitude, and strong communication skills are key.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uphold PHT policies and represent the theatre professionally and warmly.

  • Create a welcoming and safe environment for patrons.

Front of House

  • Orient, lead, and supervise volunteer ushers.

  • Assist Box Office and address patron concerns.

  • Coordinate volunteers and patrons in emergencies.

  • Occasionally deliver pre-show speeches.

  • Set up signage or lobby displays.

Box Office

  • Answer patron inquiries in person, by phone, and by email.

  • Process ticket sales, exchanges, and reprints.

  • Prepare box office reports.

  • Handle and reconcile cash/credit sales.

  • Set up signage and workstation as needed.

  • Assist Front of House Coordinator in emergencies.

Concession

  • Set up concession stand.

  • Sell items via Square, handling cash and credit transactions.

  • Serve alcohol and check ID.

  • Close concession and reconcile transactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Grant-Based Requirements

  • Must meet eligibility for the United Way Work Experience Opportunities Grant (BCEA, Disability Assistance, Hardship Assistance, Indigenous Assistance, Persons with Disabilities, or Persons with Persistent Multiple Barriers). Proof of eligibility required.

Position Requirements

  • Self-motivated with excellent communication skills.

  • Positive and flexible outlook; respectful and diplomatic with the public.

  • Experience with VBO and Square is an asset.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

  • Outstanding customer service and sales skills.

  • Detail-oriented, organized, able to work independently or with volunteers.

  • Problem-solving skills.

  • Cash handling and till balancing experience.

  • Passion for the arts and theatre.

  • Ability to speak a second language is an asset.

Accessibility Notes

  • Facility has stairs and no elevator; mobility accommodations may be possible.

  • Requires movement around lobby, theatre, and concession during shifts.

  • Environment may include low lighting, background music, and multiple conversations.

  • Ability to think clearly under time and social pressure required.
