Founded in 1972, The Cinematheque is a film institute and media education centre devoted to the art and history of Canadian and international cinema, and to exploring the impact of moving images in our lives. JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Learning & Outreach Manager manages the development and delivery of The Cinematheque’s educational and community programs. This role combines creative program design, teaching and facilitation, partnership building, and administrative management. Working closely with the Executive Director, Artistic Director, and a small team of staff and instructors, the Manager ensures The Cinematheque’s Learning & Outreach initiatives, such as Cinelab, in-school workshops, and educator programs, continue to inspire film appreciation, media literacy, and creative engagement across British Columbia.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program Development & Delivery: Design, plan, and implement education and outreach programs for youth, educators, and community audiences.

  • Teaching & Facilitation: Lead and support workshops in filmmaking, film appreciation, and media literacy, using an interactive and inclusive approach.

  • Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with schools, post-secondary institutions, community organizations, and funders.

  • Team Management: Supervise contract facilitators, instructors, and interns; ensure effective communication and collaboration within the department.

  • Budgeting & Administration: Prepare and track program budgets; oversee logistics, scheduling, and equipment inventory.

  • Fund Development: Collaborate with the Executive Director on education-related grants, proposals, and reporting.

  • Representation: Advocate for media literacy and arts education through community engagement and public speaking opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Film Studies, Film Production, Education, Communications, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in program development and delivery within arts, media, or education settings.

  • Proven experience teaching or facilitating with youth and/or adults, ideally in film or media arts contexts.

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with experience managing staff or contractors.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident public presenter.

  • Experience in fundraising or grant writing is considered an asset.

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and accessibility in education and the arts.

  • Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel locally for program delivery.

REMUNERATION:
$55,000–$65,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
