JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Communications Coordinator assists the Marketing and Communications teams in the preparation, implementation, execution, and evaluation of communications activities at Banff Centre. The objective of this position is to support Banff Centre’s Marketing and Communications needs to achieve the goals of the organization. This role provides a first-hand look at how Banff Centre tells its story to key stakeholders—participants, audiences, the local community, and staff—and plays an important part in disseminating these stories across a variety of platforms, from the press to the website to staff meetings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in gathering and executing internal communications such as emails, newsletters, intranet posts, and instant messages.

  • Maintain records of quotes, testimonials, and photos for annual reporting.

  • Gather media mentions and clippings for post-event reporting.

  • Support website updates, article creation, and photo management.

  • Assist with media materials such as press releases, media calls, and listings.

  • Manage local event listings for public Banff Centre events.

  • Identify new outlets, writers, and social media influencers to support communications strategies.

  • Monitor the Communications inbox and coordinate requests with the Director of Communications.

  • Assist in planning and preparing for communications-led events like webinars or staff meetings.

  • Contribute to Reflections, Banff Centre’s annual Report to Community.

  • Collaborate with Photo Services on selecting key media images.

  • Support community relations strategies that build local awareness and engagement.

  • Research, write, edit, and proof written materials in collaboration with Marketing and Communications staff.

  • Work with designers and web specialists on campaign materials.

  • Support online engagement efforts including social media monitoring, responding to reviews, and participating in content capture.

  • Build Facebook events for public programs.

  • Ensure activities align with Banff Centre’s brand guidelines and visual identity.

  • Maintain relevant contact databases and research audiences or strategies for communications.

  • Attend events and programs to stay informed about Banff Centre activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1–3 years of related Marketing and Communications experience.

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.

  • Experience in arts institutions, hospitality, conferences, or post-secondary settings is an asset.

  • Strong writing and editing skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, internet, and web-based communication tools.

  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.

  • Understanding of Marketing and Communications principles and practices.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Reliable, self-directed, and adaptable with strong problem-solving abilities.

  • Team-oriented with excellent communication skills.

  • Bilingual (French/English) is an asset.

Special Requirements:

  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Employment Terms & Benefits:

  • Unionized, salaried support staff position (CUPE 4318), subject to a 6-month probation period.

  • Annual salary between $42,432.00 and $44,553.60, based on experience (40 hours per week).
