This is a term position from June 23 to November 7, 2025, with a possibility of extension.

The Opportunity
The Audio Engineer is responsible for planning, execution and delivery of music and audio recordings in support of Banff Centre programming and departmental activities with the responsibility to achieve optimal sound quality and ensuring recorded material meets the artistic vision and technical standards required.
The incumbent’s main responsibilities include capturing, mixing, and producing high-quality audio recordings for both internal and external recording projects, communicating directly with internal and external stakeholders and artists, and may make creative suggestions that impact the final outcome of the project.
This position is a mentor of the audio Professional Training Program (PTP), and supports the scheduling and delivery of training and evaluation, all in alignment with highly diverse audio-related projects within Banff Centre as well as external audio projects.
Responsibilities:
Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Technical Producer/Director, Media and Production, below are some key accountabilities:
Audio Recording Projects
- Oversee and/or engineer as assigned internal and external concert recordings and other Banff Centre projects delivering high quality audio recordings. In addition, this position will undertake recording, editing and mixing for video; location and studio audio, and post production of audio.
- Responsible for the technical and creative aspects of sound recordings, such as microphone selection and placement, signal routing and processing, and studio and location equipment setup.
- Responsible for delivering of concert recordings and studio recordings to required specification and standards, communicating directly with artists and staff across all Banff Centre departments.
- Assist Senior Recording Engineer with recording schedules and project budgets on a consistent basis.
Program and Banff Centre Support
- Provide guidance to participants and clients with regard to facilities, artistic goals, and quality control of projects.
- Provide accurate and timely technical assessments of prospective audio projects both internal and external, during annual planning and on an ongoing basis.
Professional Training Program
- Assist with detailed scheduling and ongoing delivery of PTP training, mentoring and contribute expertise to PTP audio engineers on all audio projects.
General
- Collaborate in planning and execution of studio maintenance with the Head Technologist and Senior Recording Engineer ensuring proper maintenance and calibration of recording equipment for optimal performance.
- Undertake day-to-day audio maintenance in studios and assist with installs and reconfigurations of audio facilities under the direction of the Head Technologist.
- Research and secure quotes for audio equipment purchases and upgrades.
- Enter purchase orders into Banff Centre purchasing portal for audio.
- Stay informed about advancements in recording technology and industry trends.
Qualifications:
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- A degree in sound recording or equivalent experience.
- At least two years of recognized professional experience in the production and engineering of professional recordings.
- Thorough understanding of modern sound recording technologies.
- Demonstrated expertise using Pro Tools and other DAWs, analog and digital consoles, wide range of microphone types and techniques, outboard and plug-in processing, established and emerging delivery and playback formats, advanced computer skills in Mac and Windows environments.
- Expert knowledge of the latest recording techniques for music, and professional knowledge of audio post-production and alternate media.
- Ability to work self-directed at a professional level in all studios with a proven track record of success in recording engineering.
- Mentoring experience at a recognized audio institution is an asset.
- Able to thrive in a consultative, team environment.
- Possessing strong written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
Special Requirements
- Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.
Employment Terms and Benefits
- In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, hourly support staff position, subject to a 500 hour probationary period.
- This position pays $25.75 to $30.20 per hour working up to 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule.

Remuneration:
$25.75 to $30.20 per hour
