The Campbell River Arts Council was established in 1970 to promote visual and performing arts in the Campbell River area. In 1998 the Arts Council broadened its mandate, defining its new role with a mission statement: to foster awareness and interest in all art within the community, and to empower, support, and validate the creative efforts of local artists.

Job Description:
The Executive Director is the full-time manager of the Campbell River Community Arts Council who works under contract for the organization. He or she works with the Board in governing Campbell River Community Arts Council’s affairs through the development, approval and evaluation of policy, and oversees the overall day-to-day management and administration of the Campbell River Community Arts Council. The Executive Director may act on the Board's behalf given Board approval.
Responsibilities:
General
1. To attend all meetings of the Board of Directors and the Campbell River Community Arts Council conferences and annual general meeting.
2. To serve on a standing committee of the Board as needed
3. To bring to the Board's attention opportunities for new initiatives and programs, and to oversee these initiatives once adopted by the Board.
4. To work with other Community Arts Directors and senior staff in development and evaluating policy for the organization, and to actively support the aims and objects of the Campbell River Community Arts Council as set out in existing policy.
5. To act as an advocate for the Campbell River Community Arts Council at the regional level and to serve as the Campbell River Community Arts Council representative and contact in the Campbell River Region.
6. To present the interests and concerns of the region’s arts sector
7. To supervise CR Arts Council Staff and Volunteers
Finance
1. Work with the Administrator to ensure: accurate financial records or kept, including with the Campbell River Community Arts Council accountant and the Treasurer of the Board. Ensure that all necessary documents are given to the Auditor for preparation of the annual audit.
2. Draft the annual budget in consultation with the Administrator; review with the Treasurer and the President of the Board.
3. Prepare grant applications for both operating and project funding.
4. Increase Campbell River Community Arts Council revenue.
Programs
1. Assist your community in the promotion of Community Cultural Development
2. Become familiar with the concept of Arts Based Community Development with an understanding of how programming contributes.
Meetings
1. Arrange and attend face-to-face and teleconference meetings at the request of the President of the Board.
2. Attend meetings as appropriate to further the interests of the Campbell River Community Arts Council and its programming.
Advocacy
1. Establish and maintain good working relationships with government officials and staff at municipal, provincial and federal levels.
2. Establish and maintain good working relationships with all BC community and regional arts councils.
3. Establish and maintain good working relationships with other provincial arts service organizations in B.C. and across Canada, as well as other arts and heritage organizations provincially and federally.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience: A university degree or diploma in business administration, arts administration or other applicable discipline (BFA, MFA), and/or at least two years' experience in arts administration, business or recognized non-profit society management in one of the following functions:
• financial planning and fundraising
• personnel planning and administration
• program planning, implementation and evaluation
• advocacy and lobbying
• knowledge of granting systems
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
• An understanding of the cultural sector's issues and needs
• Superior writing and communication skills
• The ability to inform and motivate others
