JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for coordinating the community events permitting process, coordinating cultural programs such as Art Walk and street entertainment, coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Uptown Gallery, and coordinating the City’s parade float and attendance at external parades. The Coordinator will lead the programming and coordination of the White Rock & South Surrey Culture Crawl. This position also supports film coordination and other City-produced events such as Canada Day and Sea Festival.
Hours of Work: Up to 4 days a week – 8:30am to 4:30pm. The candidate must have the ability to work occasional weekends and evenings as required, including Statutory holidays.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop proposals, detailed plans, and schedules
Coordinate, implement, and monitor planned work activities aligned with policy or strategy
Organize work tasks and solicit corporate funding
Prepare grant funding proposals
Monitor budgets and maintain related reports, records, and correspondence
Supervise and oversee the work of casual staff, contractors, and volunteers
Liaise with other city departments to promote events using various marketing methods
Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in special events, culture and recreation programming, arts, tourism, or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience
A minimum of 3 years’ related experience with special event or cultural program management
Demonstrated ability to plan all aspects of a municipal event and cultural programming
Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and objectives of community special events development and cultural programming
Thorough knowledge of applicable policies, regulations, and rules governing the work
Experience working with community groups and organizations
Ability to prioritize workloads and work independently with minimal supervision
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships
Ability to solicit corporate sponsorship, monitor budgets, and manage event-related documentation
Experience with recruiting, training, and supervising staff and volunteers
Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a team environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to lift bulky objects, climb ladders, and stand or walk for long periods
Availability to work on days, evenings, and weekends
Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license or equivalent and safe driving record
Willingness to complete a Police Information Check (PIC)

REMUNERATION:
Pay Grade: CUPE $36.08 - $42.45 + 12%
