Ballet BC is an internationally renowned contemporary dance company led by Artistic Director Medhi Walerski. Deeply committed to presenting new work by established and emerging choreographers in addition to acclaimed repertoire, the 20-dancer company performs today’s most sought-after Canadian and international choreography. Ballet BC tours regionally and internationally in addition to its regular performance season at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver. Ballet BC is a leader and resource in the community through dance education opportunities, community and audience outreach, and professional development activities which serve to provide greater access to our art form.

The largest dance organization in British Columbia, Ballet BC is located on culturally vibrant Granville Island in the heart of Vancouver, situated on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples—the Sḵwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl’ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nations.

Job Description:
Ballet BC is seeking a part-time Graphic Designer to create compelling visuals for one of the world’s leading contemporary dance companies. Responsibilities include designing for digital and print, supporting marketing campaigns, and ensuring brand consistency. Ideal for a super creative, detail-driven designer with a passion for the arts and a fresh, innovative aesthetic.

Responsibilities:

  • Create visual elements for digital and print campaigns including advertisements, social media graphics, signage, internal communications, and promotional materials

  • Maintain brand consistency across all projects by adhering to established brand guidelines, or establishing new guidelines as necessary

  • Work closely with marketing, artistic, and development teams and collaborate with all departments to understand project requirements and deliver compelling visual solutions

  • Work creatively to develop design that aligns with the artistic vision of the organization, and contribute bold and innovative solutions

  • Effectively communicate design rationale to internal teams

  • Ensure all design files are organized and properly formatted, setting appropriate resolutions, file names, and following pre-press or web publishing standards

  • Continuously improve skills and stay current with design trends, techniques, and tools

  • Assist with minor photo editing as needed

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in graphic design, preferably an in-house role

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating creative design skills and past projects

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Canva, and Figma

  • Strong understanding of typography, colour, composition, layout

  • Knowledge of print production processes and file preparation

  • Familiarity with digital design principles, including responsive design and web optimization

  • Experience with video editing and animations is an asset

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently

  • Comfortable working on multiple projects at once with competing deadlines

  • Knowledge of or experience working with dance or other performing arts disciplines is an asset

Remuneration:
$31,000 to $33,000 annual salary for 24 hours per week
