JOB DESCRIPTION:
The City of Richmond is currently looking for enthusiastic, responsible individuals who have excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills. You will enjoy working with the public and delivering educational programs and tours for all age groups at Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, London Farm, and the Richmond Museum.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver school programs and tours.

  • Prepare educational materials and spaces for programs, including set-up and clean-up.

  • Assist with the development of hands-on activities for use in tours and programs.

  • Provide school program evaluations to teachers at the time of the program.

  • Mentor volunteers assisting in program and tour delivery.

  • Handle cash, balance, and report as required.

  • Open and close museum buildings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in public speaking, preferably to groups of children.

  • Customer service experience with strong communication skills.

  • Experience interpreting cultural or natural heritage to the public.

  • Ability to interpret, explain, educate, and inspire visitors.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercising sound judgment.

  • Ability to lead groups of various sizes and ages.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Skill in guiding interpretative conversations and encouraging active participation.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle stressful situations professionally.

  • Basic knowledge of interpretive techniques and museum principles.

  • Knowledge of Canadian and BC history.

  • Ability to pass a Police Information Check.

  • Ability to obtain First Aid certification.

  • Speaking a second language is an asset.

  • Ability to carry objects up to 25 lbs.

  • Completion of secondary school plus up to 1 year of additional courses in education, history, museum studies, drama or similar.

  • 1–2 years of experience as a heritage interpreter, school program facilitator, or similar (or equivalent education/experience).

REMUNERATION:
$29.06 – $34.03 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of benefits
